Things to do in the local area

Use the Harbour Ferry to visit Harwich and Felixstowe and travel across The Stour & The Orwell. 

Head out by boat, to the backwater creeks of Hamford Water Nature Reserve, and watch the seals lounging around on the mud flats. 

Take a walk to Shotley Vineyard for one of their fabulous summer events or wine tasting sessions.

For water lovers; enjoy sailing, windsurfiing, stand-up paddle boarding at Alton Water, or just enjoy a waterside walk.

Situated at Shotley Marina, you will discover what it was like to be a boy training at HMS Ganges naval college. 

No ordinary farm with a tiger, wolf, lemur, zebra, rare breed farm animals & a beautiful butterfly house. 

Take a leisurely stroll along the Orwell or Stour, or start your journey on the Coastal Path.

If you are visiting us in spring, take a stroll through Freston woods to smell carpets of wild garlic and bluebells.

With two estuaries, woods and farmland there are plenty of species of birds to look out for.  Walk up to Erwarton Ness from Shotley or visit an RSPB location. 

Suffolk is home to amazing array of wildlife and habitats.  We are lucky enough to see many of them on the penisular.
